Wanyuri foundation shortlisted a number of projects to be carried out in some of the villages in kumbo.From the 43 villages,those to be affected include Tobin,shuf,tooy,firkov and meluf.Shuf,firkov and meluf are about 2.5kilometers from Tobin while tooy is about 1.5 kilometers from Tobin.Below is a brief description of these villages as well as projects to be carried out here(all 5schools have all similar problems)

PROJECTS TO BE CARRIED OUT IN TOBIN

Wanyuri after proper feasibility studies and investigations has decided to carry out some infrastructural development in a school in Tobin. The selected school is Saint Theresa school Tobin(STS). STS Tobin is one of the permanent primary schools in the Diocese of Kumbo and the main school in the Immaculate Conception Parish Tobin.This school is run by a head teacher appointed by the manager of all schools under the parish of Tobin.This manager is answerable to the catholic education board secretary in charge of all schools in the diocese of Kumbo. The school has an overall enrolment 248 pupils for the primary section and 73 kids for the nursery section.The school has six teachers who are paid partly from the PTA(Parents Teachers Association) fund and partly by the Catholic education board.

RENOVATION OF SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE

STS Tobin is a school of three blocks with each block having three classrooms with old wooden doors and iron protectors installed in the windows.The school is large enough and has vast school land surrounding it.Even though this school is the main school under the parish of Tobin,It is faced with a lot of infrastructural challenges.These challenges include;

  • Very old and Perforated roofing sheets that make learning very difficult if not impossible in the rainy season.
  • Old door frames and doors with no or weak locks that make it easier for people of bad faith to break in to classes to steal or commit criminal acts like illegal gambling in the classes.
  • The classes in this school lack a ceiling.
  • Some of the floors and verandas have been destroyed.
  • The school lacks a proper toilet and urinary both for the staffs and pupils respectively.
  • Very old and dirty walls both in the interior and Exterior.

  1. MELUF

Meluf is also one of the villages in Kumbo central.It has a total population of about5117 divided into about 923 men,1318 women,2014 youths and 862 children.This population is unevenly distributed amonst the quarters of Nsame and Rooh meluf.The inhabitants of this area are mostly farmers and rearers.The area has access to electricity though only few individuals can afford it.The area also has access to clean and drinkable water .This area to some extent is governed by traditional authorities and local councilors voted by inhabitants of this region though cases above their jurisdiction are forwarded to Tobin.This area is faced with the problem of extremely bad roads that are sometimes impassable in the rainy season.Meluf has numerous primary schools though all in bad shape and a technical secondary school.Below is a satellite view of a prominent location in Meluf.

CONSTRUCTION/RENOVATION OF SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE

The school has one long very old building of five classrooms partly plastered and cemented with a very small head teacher’s office that has cracked walls. The school has vast undeveloped land.This school as old as it is  faced with numerous infrastructural challenges. Some of which include;

  • The school has a shortage of classes.
  • Very old and Perforated roofing sheets that make learning very difficult if not impossible in the rainy season.
  • Old door frames and doors with no or weak locks that make it easier for people of bad faith to break in to classes to steal or commit criminal acts like illegal gambling in the classes.
  • The classes in this school lack a ceiling.
  • The school has unplastered and cracked walls,very bad verandas and floors.
  • No water system.
